After an accident !!! Sir Michael Caine called me "The hottest one arm chick in hotpants" - Sweet..
My accident happened after I had had lunch on the 24 February 1971, at the L'Aretusa, (the hottest restaurant in London in the 70's) with Roman Polanski, Vivianne Ventura, Jane Fonda and her French husband, the very moody Roger Vadim, and of course, Richard Johnson.
After lunch Vivianne invited me to her house for tea. A fire broke out in the house whilst Vivianne, myself and her daughter Jasmine were upstairs in her bedroom watching TV.
Vivianne went to investigate and ran back upstairs, grabbing her belongings and told us to get out quick. Thinking that Jasmine was with me she came back to see why we were so slow. I could not breathe as the smoke was so thick.
Vivianne grabbed Jasmine and shouted for me to follow! I could not, I was paralysed and went to the window to scream for help. BIG MISTAKE!! Never open a window in a fire. I climbed onto the window ledge as the fire was coming fast, The radiator was hot and started spouting hot water which burnt the back of my leg. The only way now, was down.
Between the house and the basement there were railings. I remember thinking either I jump and die or I jump over the railings and someone would catch me. I jumped out of the window and fell from 3 floors. As I fell, I must have hit my head on the balcony which I believe might have saved my life as it threw me over the railings.
My neck ended up between the railings and my arms through them, My left arm was broken in 8 different places and I had dislocated my shoulder. It took two operations to get my arm back together.
I had been pumped full of morphine and in the process lost my unborn baby.
I attended the premiere of the film 'Percy'. The PR people virtually demanded that I be there, as my fall had had huge press coverage, it was sensationally documented, even in the U.S. Later that year at a party at Hugh Heffner's, Raquel Welch suggested that I recount my ordeal on TV. ... Naturally I refused.!!! I only realised then how much I had made the worldwide news.
